What meals are included in the conference?

The following meals are included in the price of the conference:

Thursday – Opening Night Dinner

Friday – Continental breakfast & lunch

Saturday – Continental breakfast & lunch

Sunday – Continental breakfast, lunch & closing reception

All the meals included in the conference include a vegetarian option. If you have any other dietary restrictions, please inform us at registration.

We additionally provide coffee and tea on the patio throughout the morning and water, ice tea and lemonade on the patio every afternoon. We have a café on premises for all other beverage and food needs.

Can you attend only part of the conference and/or is there a prorated option?

Participants are welcome to attend as much or as little of the conference as desired. We are unfortunately not able to offer a prorated rate or single day rates.

Are the evening events open to the public?

Yes, the evening events are open to the public, although preferred seating is given to conference participants.

Is there a scholarship option to attend?

Yes.
One Mystery Writers Conference Scholarship will be awarded this year, including full conference tuition to the the 2012 conference (travel and accommodations not included). To be considered, please submit up to a 1500 word sample of your fiction writing, plus one paragraph about what this conference would mean to you in your writing life. The scholarship is sponsored by William C. Gordon, the author of The Chinese Jars and King of the Bottom. Submissions must be received by 5:00 pm PST on Friday, June 1, 2012. Email submissions to bpconferences@bookpassage.com. The selected entry will be announced on our website and via an email to those who have submitted on June 15, 2012.

Are there hotels near Book Passage?

Yes, there are two hotels located next door to Book Passage, both in walking distance and offering conference participants a discount. Please refer to the Accommodations link.


Will there be a complete conference schedule posted?

Yes, we will be posting a complete conference schedule, prior to the conference, once it has been finalized. The conference schedule will span these approximate hours:

Friday  9:00 am - 9:00 pm
Saturday  9:00 am - 9:00 pm
Sunday  9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Is there a suggested dress code?

No, there is no suggested dress for any of our conferences. Please dress as comfortably and as casually as you would like. The weather is generally beautiful during the day, though you will likely want a sweater or jacket for the evening hours.

Is the conference appropriate for me if I'm a beginner in the field?

Yes, the conferences are designed to meet the needs and goals for participants at all levels. We have different offerings geared towards writers who are at different stages in the process. You will find classes and panels at every level to challenge and inspire you.
